Walking on the world's rooftop : A special evening in the presence of His Holiness Gyalwang Drukpa

An amazing adventure in the Himalayas

A 42 day walk; 400 kilometers of mountainous roads amid the barren landscapes of Ladakh and Zanskar; an altruistic commitment: this was the challenge taken up by a caravan of 750 pilgrims led by the Gyalwang Drukpa, the spiritual head of the Drukpa lineage of Tibetan Buddhism.

Physical exhaustion, daily problems of organizing food and accommodation, the challenge of coping with the altitude as well as the hostile environment: such are some of the hardships encountered, which serve to underline the strength and beauty of this walk on the world's rooftop, bringing together and uniting pilgrims who share the same wish for a better world.

This walk, whose humanitarian goal was to improve conditions in the fields of education, medical care, the environment and the spiritual and cultural heritage, proved to be both a source of encouragement and a wake up call for the Himalayan populations, highlighting the need to preserve their patrimony as well as their unique environment where nature reveals all its splendour.
